The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies‘ primarily brings with it a sensation of relief that the muddling and ultimately middling affair is finished.
While it lacks in stand-alone value is made up in its gaggle of spectacular set-pieces and a little story that directly leads into he Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring‘. At least the last prequel is a worthy companion piece to Peter Jackson’s much more superior trilogy.
It’s actually quite funny to see Jackson reflects himself into Thorin Oakenshield: Both has been suffering “dragon sickness”, a compulsive lust for gold. And thank God now Jackson can rest his tired mind, get on with new projects and move far, far away from the Middle Earth. [C]
